Y'all, I admit. DMC5s release date snuck the fuck upwards on me and I totally forgot information technology's coming out next week. I own all the games and take... admittedly beat out DmC before. But I wanna know if information technology's possible to trounce DMC 1-4 before v drops then I can take hold of upwards and savor it on release. If I tackle this now, is there anything I should know or avert earlier diving headfirst. Thanks!

Edit:
I've beat ane over the weekend, but took about 3.five hours. Moved on to 2, despite what everyone said. Huge regret. Already finished the Dante disc though and am about halfway through the Lucia one, so I'll but get it over with to say I finished it. Excited to motility onto 3!

no, the first one is impossible

You 100% could. They take a few hours each. ii is ultra slow but is of import reference to empathise how far the franchise has come.

their about 6-10 hours each
ignore dmc2 and dont play the reboot and you'll be good

Just the idea of replaying DMC 2 gives me nightmares

DOnt practice that to yourself, it's a corking series but this is an awful idea.

Just jump into 5. Video games aren't homework and the story doesn't matter.

I already played the reboot though, and... I liked it.
I guess I should say that I don't like the story or Dante himself simply the combat I thought was ace.

Play them all on like shooting fish in a barrel and you should be proficient. Non with automatic commands, though. Don't skip the reboot.
SnatcherHunter
  • #ix
You don't have to..
You can skip two easily. Even the 1st one.

If anything play DMC4 SE and that'south it.
It explains the backstory. What little it has.

  • #10
I feel like you'll just come into DMC5 fatigued, or at best tired of having to unlock basic moves again.

If you desire to for story reasons, yous'll probably be fine only playing DMC3. It's too the best game in the serial, overall.

That's a corking fashion to hate a series.

Third i yep. Fourth one, certainly. The first one... eh, maybe. The second one y'all'll need to have patience. And forget abourt DMC, the reboot.
  • #xiv
They're non long games. The joy is in the replaying and becoming a Smokin' Sick Fashion fiend.
2 is bad though. Don't play that or the reboot. And the first i is kind of clunky.
... Actually just play 3 and four.
  • #15
I think you lot volition burn yourself out on the gameplay and it will ruin 5 for you. Watch a story epitomize and and then play them leisurely after you take finished v.

It's mostly well-nigh gameplay and fashion, I'm sure story will be explained quite nicely. Exercise non bother. Fifty-fifty DMC4 feels a chip... stiff after trying DMC5 I'd say :P
Strings
  • #18
Y'all can beat 1, iii and 4 easy, as they're all a reasonable length.
I think you will burn yourself out on the gameplay and it will ruin 5 for you. Watch a story recap and then play them leisurely afterward y'all have finished 5.
The games evolve radically, so this is not an issue. You get from the very beginning character action to the best, and so also play DMC4, which is a neat game too.

You could, merely I retrieve you would burn out quickly.

Honestly 3 and iv are all you need. Read up on what went on in 2 (and then laugh).
  • #21
I recall you lot will burn yourself out on the gameplay and it will ruin 5 for you lot. Watch a story epitomize and and then play them leisurely after you have finished 5.
Yep.

Pretty sure 5 will even come up with a recap of sorts.

If you couldn't do it after all these years, you certain as hell won't go it done in a week.

All that means is you dont accept to play DMC5 at launch. Im catching up on the Kingdom Hearts series just doesn't mean I had to cram it all before KH3 released.

  • #23

Yakuza is a lot more story-driven, though. DMC has actually uncomplicated stories, a one minute epitomize for each game will tell you everything you need to know. Hell, make it fifteen seconds for DMC2.
If you couldn't do it subsequently all these years, you sure as hell won't get it done in a calendar week.

All that means is you lot dont have to play DMC5 at launch. Im catching upward on the Kingdom Hearts serial but doesn't mean I had to cram it all before KH3 released.

That'due south a great culling if yous have patience. Probably the all-time pick.

Merely play DMC3 and scout a synopsis of DMC4 on Youtube. And then y'all'll exist primed to enjoy a better version of DMC4's insanely good combat system (without actually suffering through its extremely uneven campaign), and be able follow the story too.

In a few months yous should definitely swing back to DMC1 though. It shows its age in some means, but it's a archetype for skillful reason. Really great atmosphere and art design, and you'll become to see what Dante was all about before DMC3 and four turned his cheesiness up to 11. DMC1 is genuinely creepy at times, and the less combo oriented gainsay, combined with the high difficulty, gives it a unique experience compared to the other DMC games.

DMC1's enemies are Soulsborne-ish, in that they're similar puzzles to solve. If yous but sew together and attempt to slash at them, yous're doing it wrong. There's almost always a trick. For example, Sin Pair of scissors can be one-shotted with your shotgun if y'all parry their attack with your sword so become really close before pulling the trigger. Shadows are fast enemies that endeavour to impale you with spears that shoot out of their bodies. If you leap to dodge i, yous'll land on the spear and the Shadow volition be vulnerable to gunfire, which allows yous to strip away its outer layer and expose its core.

Incidentally, both of these enemy types announced in DMC5, in some form.

Y'all could but I wouldn't recommend it. Don't burn yourself out. If you must, and then play ane, iii, and 4; 1 is arguably less important than 3 and 4 in terms of relevance.

If you lot don't, you'll never empathize Kingdom Hearts 3.
Ravelle
  • #27
Sure, because you don't need to play DMC5 on release day. Accept all the fourth dimension you need, brute forcing and rushing through it normally results in a burnout before y'all become to 5. I've been there.

  • #28
Why the rush? DMC V isn't going away. Have your fourth dimension
R.T Straker
  • #29
You can cease DMC 3,1 and four in a calendar week.

Free.

It'southward achievable. The games aren't necessarily long, though yous might run upwards your play fourth dimension with learning curves if it's your first time playing them.

So equally a consensus, jumping straight into 3 or 4 seems to be people's favourite. Any recap to scout before iv? 4 is on Game Pass, I believe. From the responses on her it does seem some of the older games have not anile very well?

Watch the ending of DMC
Skip DMC2
Play DMC3
End playing DMC4 whenever you lot feel like information technology

DMC1's camera work and some other minor things did non age well merely information technology'due south nonetheless worth playing imo.

DMC2 is a skip.

Reboot is absurd, ignore the haters, I would just play that and four.
  • #35
Play 1 at least. Later play 3 along Five :P

There is absolutely no need to do that. Also, that'due south a actually practiced way to fire yourself out earlier V fifty-fifty comes out.
mrmickfran

You lot really just demand to play one, three and 4. Yous could definitely do it within a week.

I fearfulness for your hands though

no, the first one is impossible
Lmao what

3 is harder

  • #38
I cannot think of something more than monotonous and repetitive than playing all these games back-to-back.
PeterVenkman
  • #39
Avoid 2 and the reboot. The former is a bad game and the latter is a bad game that's unrelated to V'southward story.

If you actually want to, play 1, three and four. 3 is a classic. 4 has the best combat but a ton of repetition.

mrmickfran
  • #40
He can't skip DMC1 guys. DMC5 has quite a few nods to it.
Reboot is cool, ignore the haters, I would just play that and four.
Maybe they're just saying to skip the reboot because it's unnecessary to the story?
Nikus
  • #41
Y'all should only enjoy them at your own stride and dive into DMC5 when you're done. Even if you don't play it on release, it'south more important to properly relish the previous DMC games imo.

I went through the entire serial over the final few months. If we're just talking i-4 since yous played the reboot, then here are my recommendations:

Skip 1 and please for the honey of god skip two--you can just scout cutscenes or lore videos.

three is slap-up and you should absolutely play it.

I didn't care for iv, only it seems to do a adept job setting up for 5 so it's essential from that perspective.

Also, you don't have to play games at launch so...maybe don't force it!

SurrenderDorothy
  • #43
Play three, watch 4(you could play this one as well but it has its bug story-wise, the gameplay is summit notch).
Don't play 2 or the reboot. Play 1 after 5. If y'all play all of them at once y'all'll be burnt out lol.

My honest advice is to but accept your fourth dimension though, the game isn't going anywhere.

  • #44
You know y'all practise not HAVE to purchase 5 on launch day, if you lot want to to finish the others commencement take your time.
  • #45
And then as a consensus, jumping straight into 3 or 4 seems to exist people's favourite. Any recap to watch earlier 4? 4 is on Game Laissez passer, I believe. From the responses on her it does seem some of the older games take not aged very well?
four isn't really worth playing every bit your simply game if you're more than worried almost story. If you just want a taste for the gameplay, and so become for it, it's the closest one to DMC5, but it doesn't really add much to the series' canon.

I don't remember they anile poorly at all, except for DMC2, just DMC2 was already trash when it came out. The affair is that people usually binge play games in a series to catch up on the story, not for the gameplay, and DMC is actually calorie-free on story, even though I genuinely enjoy the stories and characters. A quick recap is more than plenty to tell you everything you need to know. The fact that Nero even so doesn't know shit likewise adds a valuable newcomer perspective in the game itself, and then they'll be forced to explicate things to Nero during the game, which will help onboard new players.

DMC5 is the game in which Nero will learn the story of the previous games, basically, haha.

1 is very different from the other games, and that lonely makes it very much worth playing, but non if your only business concern is communicable up on the lore. Information technology'due south more often than not for the experience of really playing it.

Reboot is cool, ignore the haters, I would simply play that and four.
I love the reboot, merely I'll agree with the haters here simply because OP already played it, and it's from a separate canon from the mainline titles, so it's kind of a waste of fourth dimension playing information technology to "prepare for 5".

Still very much worth playing on its own.

i is going to be pretty important, good matter the hd drove version of 1 is a fair chip easier than the ps2 version.
And so I would say play through 1,3 and 4 skip 2 and DmC.

A man of civilisation, I see.

I still think DmC is one of the best games in the serial by merit of its combat alone. It has the most streamlined commands without sacrificing depth entirely.

hey it's that dog
  • #48
If your goal is to "catch up" and then 4 seems similar the about relevant homework in terms of story and characters that will be in v. And iii is a great game so play it if you want to. I probably wouldn't saturate myself with DMC a week before the new one, though.
SurrenderDorothy
  • #49
Reboot is absurd, ignore the haters, I would just play that and four.
Only man wants to catch upward. Playing the reboot is useless in that regard.
It's all moot since he played it anyhow.
A human of civilization, I see.

Nah, there were some sacrifices. Non enough to be some bad game or westward/e, information technology'southward still good. But I wouldn't agree that the depth hasn't been sacrificed entirely.

Yeah... simply why? Only play 4 and you will probably be good. ane is as well going to be relevant to the plot (it introduces a number of the main characters), just would be a little difficult to go dorsum to. If yous really desire a feeling for Dante's grapheme (and a stiff introduction to his brother Vergil), I would play 3 (which is my favorite game in the series). That being said, you don't take much time, and that feels similar a lot of rushing to me.

If yous REALLY want to play them all (excluding 2, because that game is complete garbo), and then commencement playing one now and play through those three games over the grade of the side by side calendar month or 2. Option upwardly DMC5 when it goes on auction (about games will go a little discount a calendar month or two after they launch).

So, in summary, these are your options for preparing for DMC5...

You can hands play DMC4 and be generally defenseless up for when DMC5 releases. (approximately an hour and a one-half a day)
Y'all tin cram and play DMC3, and DMC4 and get nigh all the important stuff... (now we are talking three hours a day)
You tin try to cram in DMC1, DMC3, and DMC4 and so that y'all can exist completely up to engagement... (now it is about iii and a one-half hours a day)
That being said, you don't actually demand to pick DMC5 up on the offset mean solar day. That is an artificial barrier.
